Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has one of the premier departments of Surgical Gastroenterology in India. The department was established in 1996 by Dr Samiran Nundy and has since then become one of the leading centers for advanced gastrointestinal surgery. Liver transplantation at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital began in 2001 with the first deceased donor liver transplant. The program has grown to become one of the leading living donor liver transplant programs in the world. The liver transplant surgeons include Dr Vinay Kumaran (Director), Dr Naimish Mehta (Associate Director), Dr Vibha Varma and Dr Sorabh Kapoor.
